Dear Friends and Family!
Thank you all for praying for Patrick’s health!
Here is a short update on all that has happened:
We arrived save and sound in Manila on Saturday, July 16th, after our 3 month furlough in the US, and all seemed to be fine.
Then, on Monday, Patrick started to feel nauseated and complained about a massive headache. The nausea quickly turned in to unbearable abdominal pain, including vomiting, which prompted us to call the ambulance on Wednesday morning.
After a day in the ER and a battery of tests, the diagnosis came down to “severe, life threatening, ketoacidosis (DKA), severe dehydration, and a possible viral infection”. Patrick was put on many different intravenous drips and was not able to eat solid food for 4 days. The DKA subsided, but he developed a low grade fever and was kept in the hospital for another week.
On the day Patrick was discharged, our doctor explained that, if we would have waited another few hours to get to the ER, Patrick could have slipped in to a coma and possibly died. All this seemed to have been caused by dehydration from air travel, dehydration from the diabetes medicine he was on at the time, a viral infection, and high glucose levels.
We praise the LORD through all of this and thank Him for His love, His compassion, and His mercies, that are new every day!
PS: Right now we are staying at the SIL guest house Quezon City, and will travel to Batangas, tomorrow (Monday), to catch a boat back to Romblon Island.
In Him,
Patrick & Karen
“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgives all yours iniquities; who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from destruction; who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies…”” – Psalm 103:1-4
