New Translation Work! 15-07-29

Dear Friends and Family!

The Lord allowed a team of 5 to come together to translate “The Believer’s Bible Commentary”, authored by William MacDonald, into Tagalog, the Philippine’s official national language.  Praise Him!

No doubt, this is a big job!  However, to echo Bill’s own words: “…a big job is made up of many little jobs…”.  So, after an extensive time of fact finding and preparation, the team is planned to start on August 3rd, with the Gospel of John.  At this time, there is no Tagalog Bible Commentary available anywhere!

The goal is to translate the commentary into an easy, every-day spoken Tagalog, and then to make it available to everyone in printed format, but also in digital media, including on a multi-device mobile platform.

Please pray for the following:

♦ the Lord’s guidance & will in all

♦ more translators for the OT  (part- & full -time)

♦ some office equipment that is needed

♦ our travel to Manila to meet with the team, August 3rd thru the 10th

Also, please lift up the individual team members in your prayers: Darben DelaCruz, Rikkie & Dinna Tienzo, Patrick & Karen Carder.

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

In Him!

Patrick & Karen

Health Update 2015-07-20

Dear Friends and Family! We would like to update you on our current health situation, so that you can hold us up in prayer…we need that more than anything!

As some of you know, we have no good hospital facilities here on Romblon Island. It’s more of a clinic with limited options.  So we get our regular checkups in Manila, about every 3 month.

Recently Karen has had a lot of knee pain and over the last 6-8 month, Patrick has been fatigue and feeling weak.  For a long time we chalked it up to age and the heat here.  And it slows up down a bit.  We finally decided that it was time to see a doctor about these specific symptoms…

After days of sitting at labs and waiting rooms in Manila, we had some diagnosis:

– Karen has the beginnings of osteoarthritis and high blood pressure. She was put on meds for it and is managing it very good.

– Patrick was diagnosed with 3 “diseased” arteries in his heart, whereby the extent of narrowing/ blockage is unknown. So, the options given were: angiogram (to check where and how much disease there is), and after that possibly angioplasty, 1-2 stints, or triple bypass surgery…not very encouraging…
We researched quite a bit and found that doctors are starting to lean away from invasive surgeries and toward change in diet and lifestyle (less stress) for healing. Studies are showing a 50/50 chance of heart attack or death with either choice.  Also, one of the brothers at the San Juan assembly managed to REVERSE his blockage of 75%(!) by going on a specific diet. So through prayer, and looking at all our options, we have decided on the less invasive, new diet and lifestyle change approach.  So, for about 5-6 weeks have been on a no sugar, low carb, high protein, natural food diet…with loads of veggies and lower sugar fruits.  The result is that both of us have normal blood pressure (without meds!), and Patrick has dropped one of his diabetes meds(!) and his blood sugars are normal most days…praise the LORD!

So, please pray for wisdom, perseverance,  and strength as we try to get healthier, and, that God would heal us (…for He is Jehovah Rapha! [2Chron. 3:20]) and give us energy to do the work He has called us to do.

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

In Him!

Patrick and Karen

Answered Prayer & Update 2015-07-09

Praise the LORD: we finally got a bunch of rain and our well is 2/3s full!

Sadly, Patrick once again had to repair the water line that runs from the well to the house…someone vandalized us (again!) and cut it in to two places…oh, well…

We would like to request prayer for our elderly neighbor Lola Edith and her baby grandson. The baby is still held hostage for ransom by a neighbor of the deceased mother (Lola’s daughter). We are planning to take Lola with us to Manila, July 30th, and have her meet with social workers and possibly with the Police in this regard. This situation is very heart breaking for all involved. Please pray for protection, wisdom and comfort.

Please continue to pray for the following:

♦ weekly Bible studies

♦ Children’s ministry: we have been invited to visit with a class at our local Elementary School!

♦ Jesus Film Project: we have put it on hold for now…

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Thanksgiving & Prayer Request 2015-05-08

W o w !

Our weekly Ladies Bible study had a total of 8 last Thursday! 2 adults and the rest were young folks! 2 of those young ladies completed and handed in their tests for What The Bible Teaches! And one of them is our village captain’s youngest daughter!

We praise the LORD for all of it!

We are now at the hight of “hot season” and we can tell, because our well water is very low and it takes a lot of time to fill our tank. Please pray for the water situation in our village also…it is only dripping…

Also, we are booked on the boat to go to Manila on May 14th, for 10 days. We need supplies, have some routine Doctor check-ups, and are meeting some of our missionary friends to discuss miscellaneous translation work. Please pray for a safe journey, continued good health, and for the Lord to establish a good team for the translation efforts… and all according to His will!

Please continue to pray for the following:

♦ weekly Bible studies

♦ Children’s ministry: it is on hold because all the kids are out of school…

♦ Jesus Film Project: due to scheduling conflict with community events, we have put it on hold for now…

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Answered Prayer & Thanksgiving 2015-03-23

Dear Friends and Family!

We had quite the scare a few days ago: somebody set fire to the grass on the hillside that is close to our well pump! We watched the fire come closer and closer to the pump! We called the village official and he said that nothing could be done…The only thing to do was to pray and so we did…

The next morning we went down to the well pump to look what had happened: the fire had stopped about 15 feet from the wooden shed that houses the pump, praise the LORD!

Also, last Thursday morning we decided to to pray that the Lord would bring some more ladies to our weekly Bible study. The moment we were done praying we hear the voices of 2 new ladies who decided to attend the Bible study! Praise the Lord!

Please pray for the 2 new ladies, Virgie (in her late 20s) and Sarah (12!).

Please continue to pray for:

♦ the weekly ladies Bible study

♦ the children’s ministry

♦ the showing of the Jesus Film (no updates so far…)

♦ the training of our helpers

Thank you for praying with us and for us!

In Him!

Update 2015-03-04

Dear Friends and Family,

we had a good, 10 day trip, to Manila, and the Lord provided wonderfully for much needed supplies. It was very refreshing to fellowship with the saints at San Juan Bible Chapel on both Sundays and we really enjoyed meeting up with some of the folks afterwards for more fellowship, food and fun!

Once back home on Romblon, we continue to work on the details in regards to the showing of the Jesus Film. The equipment (12 foot tarp screen, projector, laptop, media, sound system, generator, extension cords etc.) is all good to go, just some final touches here and there…

Please continue to pray for the following:

♦ weekly Bible studies

♦ Children’s ministry

♦ Jesus Film Project: we visited the Sablayan village a few times, but were not able to get in touch with the village official as of yet…we decided to push the date back to the 2nd Saturday in April…please pray that we will get approval from the village officials!

♦ Training of our helpers: we had our first session the last 2 week ends and it went well. The purpose is to get everybody on the same page in regards to the effective presentation of the Gospel. We touched on “The Doctrine of Salvation”, on various of the key points, and we will continue to teach on how to present the Gospel in a clear way in the following weeks…

Again, thanks for praying with us and for us!

In Him!

Patrick & Karen Carder

I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

Psalm 34:1-3

Answered Prayer & Thanksgiving 2015-01-14

Dear Friends and Family!

We finally got word that our Missionary Visa has been approved without any additional cost!

Praise the LORD!

We thank the Lord for your love for us and we very much appreciate you laboring with us in prayer!

Please continue to pray for the following:

♦ weekly Bible studies

♦ Children’s ministry

♦ Jesus Film Project: we have contacted and consulted with our village official, Jun Hilario, and he was very helpful and encouraging. He provided very much information in regards to the other officials, safety and security concerns, and do’s and dont’s. He really thinks that it will be beneficial to the people here. We are planning to go to Sablayan village on this coming Sunday for the purpose of prayer on site and possibly to see the village official…

♦ Training session with our helpers: the purpose is to get everybody on the same page in regards to the effective presentation of the Gospel. We will be touching on “The Doctrine of Salvation” and how to present the Gospel in a clear fashion.

Again, thanks for praying for us!

In Him!

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Who forgives all yours iniquities; who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from destruction; who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies; Who satisfies your mouth with good things; so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Update 2014-12-08

Dear Friends and Family!

The typhoon Hagupit (aka Ruby) has passed over us and we are in the clear, praise the Lord!
We had minor damage, just some tree branches, but a lot of debris all over…

We did not check on our well yet, so please pray that it is still working…

We are still without power and it is unclear when it will come back on… we would appreciate prayers for this as well…

Thanks!

In Him,

Patrick & Karen Carder

Update 2014-12-07

Dear Friends and Family!

We just lost power, so here is a short update:

We are having heavy winds, but little rain as of now, and the eye of

the typhoon should be over us this late night.

We checked on every one in our village this morning, but almost all have

been evacuated to the middle part of the island. There is only our house

and the immediate neighbor down the street, and they are also housing a

bunch of people.

We took in some more folks yesterday and had a wonderful time this

Sunday morning, with singing praise and worship songs, especially with all of

the children…

Please continue to pray.

In Him,
