Update Sept. 16th, 2020

Dear praying Friends and Family!

The LORD brought us 63 kids this last Saturday!  Praise Him!  All of them were very good in following the COVID mandates for wearing masks and also to social distance…which was hard for the kids…  There was a lot of fun and laughter, though!  We also had some “tiny” ones (3 to 5 years old) that joined their older sibling in the fun.  They also enjoyed the hot coco and cookies…

The next Bible Verse Memory Club meeting will be September 26th and we are planning to give a PowerPoint Gospel presentation to tie together all the verses they memorized.  Please pray for the equipment (projector, sound, laptop) would function well, and without power outages, and that our presenter, Cris Managaring,  would be led by the LORD during it all.  We are also planning to provide a meal for all the kids.

Also please pray that many kids would receive the LORD as their savior!

Please continue to pray for:

⚑ the audio dubbing of “King of Glory” into the Tagalog language

⚑ God to open the hearts of men and women for the gospel in our village

⚑ strength and continued health

⚑ our visa renewal to go smoothly in November

⚑ income at the CoffeeTime shop in town, a livelihood program,

which is very little since COVID

⚑ the COVID restrictions to ease more, as there is still no travel possible

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

In Him!

Short Update August 19th, 2020

Dear Friends and Family!

We had a wonderful Bible Verse Memory Club this last Saturday, praise the LORD!  The first one in 4 month amid COVID-19 restrictions. The LORD gave us 50 kids! They all went home with much needed school supplies.  Please pray for the next one, on Saturday the 29th of August at 10am (Manila Time)!

Also, it seems that Manila is easing in to lesser COVID-19 restrictions, but travel is still virtually impossible for us…

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Update August 14th, 2020

Dear Friends & Family,

We were allowed to reopen the Coffee shop in town, which is as you know a “Livelihood” project aimed to help our friend Lani Mangaring, as she is a widow with 3 kids. So we opened the shop, but only at 50% capacity, as mandated by the local government.  It is going very slow as there are no tourists and no public events due to COVID-19.

We received permission from our village kapitan to start up the  Bible Verse Memory Club with the kids, praise the LORD!  Everyone has to wear masks and we have to be able to “social distance” everyone.  So we had to buy masks for everyone.  It is scheduled to be held tomorrow, Saturday the 15th, at 9am (Manila Time).  Please pray that all will go well!

Karen received much encouragement when little Sara, a previous top verse club kid, who had gone through a few of our Bible correspondence courses, got pregnant (very discouraging…) at 16. She dropped by a few days ago, after not having seen her for months, and just for a minute at the rice distribution in our village.  She asked if Karen would do a one-on-one Bible study with her!  We are all so encouraged!  Please pray for this young lady!

Lastly, our Philippine Visa is coming up for renewal on January 3rd, 2021, and the Immigration Bureau is closed due to COVID-19, and it also seems that the government is making it harder to get any Visa approved, even a Tourist one. Please pray!

Also, please continue to pray for the following:

⚑  for many to come to receive the LORD Jesus as their Savior!

⚑  Coffee store in town, a livelihood project, COVID-19 restrictions

⚑  Ladies Bible Study, trying to restart

⚑  Kid’s Bible Verse Memory Club tomorrow, Saturday August 15th at 9am

⚑  The King of Glory Movie – Tagalog Audio – completed OT, working on NT

⚑  That the daily power outages will stop

⚑  Continued good health

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Dear praying Friends and Family!!!

All went well, praise the LORD!

It was a hot day and we were thankful that we were allowed to use the Barangay Basketball Court, and the LORD also sent a cooler breeze all day long!

All the people were thankful for the rice, the Gospel of Luke booklet & Gospel tracts, and we had to say “salamat sa Dios!” (Thank the Lord!) many times, whenever they tried to thanks us…to God be All the Glory!

Thank you all for making this possible!

Update April 18, 2020

Dear Friends & Family,

We praise the Lord for keeping us safe and restoring our health amid the COVID-19 pandemic!

Karen & I were sick for 2 weeks with a nasty head & chest cold, with just a few days of having a low grade fever though, so we do not think it was the COVID-19.  Our island is on full lock down, and only one person can be in/on a vehicle at the same time.  No one is allowed to enter the main town, other than between 4am-9am and 3pm-7pm, with a curfew from 8pm-4am…and, everyone has to wear a mask…

Karen is doing all of the shopping in town, and we are very careful following the CDC guidelines (washing hands & cloth after going to town and disinfecting items & surfaces).  There are no reported COVID-19 cases here on our island, but then we really don’t know, because there is limited testing going on. Thankfully, so far no positive cases and no deaths. Many grocery shelves are now empty and are not being restocked.  It is getting harder every week, but we trust the Lord as it continues…

Also, we are trying to help our village with rice distributions as we are able to.  We are praying for a procurement of a larger amount (500kg/1000lbs) of rice for the folks here, and appreciate prayers in this matter. The PH Government has given some, but not enough as Filipinos cant work, so they cant buy anything…

Patrick was able to complete Scene 27 of the “King of Glory Movie” Tagalog audio…it is taking longer than he wanted it too…we are experiencing power outages almost daily…and that does not help at all…

We thank the Lord for His provisions, His care, His protection and for giving us His incredible peace every day!

Phi 4:19:

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Psalm 23:1:  “The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want”

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Urgent Prayer Request! Feb. 28th, 2020

Dear praying Friends & Family,

Ok, we need your prayers! Today we found out that there are problems with the City’s building permits for the Coffee Shop in town.  They are requiring “building drawings, plumbing drawings, electrical engineering sign off, fire department sign off, etc”, and of course everything costs something…and…we have no clue what to do!  Lani, as the owner, is trying to deal with all of this, and, as I write this, she is waiting to meet with a City “official” to figure out what is going on…PLEASE PRAY! Pray for the Lord to give Lani wisdom, for the Lord’s leading, and for the Lord to intervene! The shop is going well otherwise, and the Lord is providing customers, and many opportunities to share the Gospel!

Also, the Lord brought us 75 kids to our “Bible Verse Memory Club” this last Saturday! They were all fed and all had a great time with the Bible verses! Praise the Lord!

The “King of Glory Movie” Tagalog audio editing is going well and we completed Scenes 1-22 (of 70 total). Praise the Lord!  It is a lot of tedious work, but we are pushing forward!

Please continue to pray for the following:

⚑  for many to come to receive the LORD Jesus as their Savior!

    ⚑  Bible Verse Memory Club

⚑  Coffee shop in town, that all “building permits” be approved …

⚑  “The Bible Translator” –  new features development – concluded!

⚑  The King of Glory Movie – Tagalog Audio  – for stamina…

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Update December 19th, 2019

Dear Friends and Family!

Our island is still recovering from Typhoon “Tisoy”, a category 5 storm, that left much devastation in it’s path.  We praise the LORD that no lives were lost! We also praise Him, that the power to our house restored was restored just a few hours ago! The last 3 weeks were hard on us, as we had little sleep, and a lot of work, and some things just not going right.  We thank the LORD that he brought us through it all!

The coffee shop in town is coming together nicely, but we still are facing challenges with permits, and so forth. Please pray, as we already had good contacts to share the Gospel!

We had to cancel the Bible Verse Memorization Club, due to the power outage, needed roof repairs, and that our helpers could not make it here, because of road conditions…

Please continue to pray for the following:

⚑  for many to come to receive the LORD Jesus as their Savior!

⚑  Coffee store in town, going well, but some challenges ahead…

⚑  the planning of a Gospel Movie for the kids…

    ⚑  Ladies Bible Study…also on break…

    ⚑  Filipino BB Commentary – on break…

    ⚑  “The Bible Translator” – on break…

⚑  The King of Glory Movie – Tagalog Audio – on break…

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Typhoon: We are OK!

December 5th, 2019

We are OK!  Thank you LORD!

Thanks for praying!

Typhoon KAMMURI (TISOY/29W)  hit our village and our island hard!

As far as we know, no lives were lost, thank you LORD!

There is much devastation on the island and many of our neighbors lost roofs, pieces of their houses, and all the power lines are down.  Our house only lost some wooden shutters, but our Nipa hut (multi function room) lost pieces of the roof, but only little water came in, thank you LORD! We have not checked our well pump, it’s power- and water lines, but will do that tomorrow…please pray that everything will be intact! We have water in our tank for about 7 days and are conserving where we can…

It is estimated that the electricity will be down for at least one week, if not more, and we are thankful to the LORD for our generator!  It will run about 50% of the time to conserve gasoline, but that will keep the refrigerator cold enough.  Also, many neighbors are wanting to charge their devices & lamps with our generator, and it has become somewhat overwhelming.  Patrick is putting up a “charging station” for community with a long extension cable to the road… Please pray that gasoline will be available…

Our Coffee shop in town lost pieces of the metal roof and flooded. Also the power line was torn off the wall and we already had electricians fix it.  The electric company (Romelco) will have to come and reconnect it to the “grid”. Our friend Lani Mangaring helped to clean and dry out the shop, even though her own house sustained damaged to the roof and it needed cleaning, too!  What a friend!

The cell phone service just came back, including internet, but it is very slow and unstable at the moment…

Also, please pray that the ATMs will be working again, soon…

There is much work to be done and we will report back as we can…

In Him,

Patrick & Karen

Update November 20th, 2019

Dear Friends & Family,

We praise the LORD for allowing us to be at & to enjoy the CMML Missionary Retreat, and also for a good stay in Manila.  We had a set back with the car repairs, though, as the dealer did not have any of the parts needed, especially not the transmission sensor…maybe the next time we are in Manila.  One of our fellow missionaries recommended a “3rd party” repair shop, and we finally got all the fluids changed, and the brakes pad & rotors replaced, praise the LORD!

We had no Ladies Bible study during the last few weeks, as no one showed up…

Patrick has been sick with a sinus infection, but he is getting well again…

The LORD allowed us to rent a space in town and we are fixing it up, as to be a “livelihood” project for Lani, who is a widow.  We envision it to become a coffee shop, where Lani can sell her incredible baked goods, and where we could meet for Bible study with town people. Thank you LORD!

Please continue to pray for the following:

    ⚑  Coffee store in town…

⚑  the planning of a Gospel Movie for the kids…

⚑  for many to come to receive the LORD Jesus as their Savior!

    ⚑  Ladies Bible Study…

⚑  Filipino BB Commentary, looking for proof readers…

⚑  “The Bible Translator” –  new features development – going well…

⚑  The King of Glory Movie – Tagalog Audio Time Synchronization…

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

In Him!
