Dear Friends,

as we continue to pack up our household, we pray daily that the Lord will
give us strength and also that He will provide everything needed for the move.

Lord willing, we will be loading the first truck on Jan 4th, which is also
the day for Karen & I to drive to Batangas port (4h south of us) and board the
RORO (roll-on-roll-off) ferry to Romblon.

Please pray:
———————————————————————————
– that the truck indeed will come on Jan 4th

– that the weather is good for driving and sailing

– that everything and everyone will arrive unharmed

– for the Lord’s provision in all things

We miss you all !

With much love,

in Him.

Update 2013-11-26

Hi All!

We made it back to Manila…after a grueling 15h boat ride with a rough sea…

We are trying to get organized with our move to Romblon…please pray!

Update 2013-11-16

We had quite the scare when Typhoon Yolanda went right over us,  here on Romblon Island, Visayas, last Saturday. We had 30 feet waves from the storm surge  in front of our house, but they stayed 300feet away, praise the Lord! Many houses here in our village were damaged and everybody is helping out their neighbors. No lives were lost here on Romblon.

This Typhoon was labeled a category 5 Super Typhoon with 3.5 more power than Hurricane Katrina. The island of Leyte, and especially the city of Tacloban, had the most devastation and the death toll so far is around 10,000…

Thanks for all your prayers, it made all the difference!

We are still ok, after Typhoon Yolanda came thru, just battling usual things following a storm with 190mls/h wind. Cell phone- & internet services are still in-and-out, so is the electricity. A huge tree near our water well came down on top of our waterline, so we had to remove it…and the line was still ok, praise the Lord! Also, some windows cracked, but other than that all is well. There is some damage to a few houses in the village and everybody is helping out. We will try to catch the next boat out this coming Tuesday…please pray!

Ex23:20 “Behold, I send an Angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared…”

Update 2013-10-15

Hi all!

We just came back from the annual CMPI (Christian Missions in the Philippines Islands) missionary retreat in Rizal Laguna, which is about 2-3h south of us.

Many of the PH missionaries attended this 3 day event and we had a good time of fellowship, singing, prayer and fun. Phil Barnes of MSC was the speaker.

It was great to get to know our fellow co-workers a little better…

Also, many of the folks are sick with fevers, so please pray for the Lord to keep everyone healthy…

– Aunt Rose Brooks had a follow up with the doctors and she is doing well!

Please continue to pray for her strength to increase…

– The New Zealand team of 16 has left. They distributed over 80,000 Gospel tracts in about 10 days and over 100 people already contacted BSA and asked for ECS courses! Praise the LORD!

Please pray that many will “Call upon the LORD” and be saved!

– We (the Carders) are planning to go to Romblon Island next week, Oct 22nd, to get started with the repairs on the rental house there. The amount of work that needs to be done before December 27th (which is our move date…) is overwhelming.

Please pray for safety while traveling, for the Lord’s provision, and that the Lord will “direct our steps” (Prov 16:9)

We miss you all!

With much love,

in Him,

Patrick & Karen

“…God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God…” 1 John 5:11-13 NKJV

Prayer Request 2013-09-11

Hi Friends & Family!

Just a short update and prayer request from the Carders:

– Rose Brooks is still in the hospital, due to a bleeding ulcer.
She is doing much better, but something is still causing blood loss, so
she is scheduled for another Endoscopy today to find out what else might
be wrong.    PLEASE PRAY !

– As previous mentioned, we are planning to go to Romblon Island, to
try to get things repaired on the rental house (electricity, water, etc.).
However, we decided to stay here (Manila) while Aunt Rose is in the hospital.
Karen is one of the care takers at the hospital and rotates with other folks
to be there with Aunt Rose.  It’s such a privilege and blessing to be there for her!

In this, we are reminded of  Proverbs 16:9, which says:
” A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.”
and Psalm 27:14 ” Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD! ”

…so…we will wait until the Lords makes way for us to go to Romblon…

PLEASE KEEP US IN YOUR PRAYERS!

Thanks for Praying! Update 08/30/2013

Thanks for praying for us and the Philippines!

The water is all gone, praise the Lord!

Continue to pray for those who are still out of their homes…

We are planning to go back to Romblon Island the second week in September.

Our hope and prayer is that we will be able to get the electricity connected to the rental house.

There is much more work to be done after that, though…install pump to get water from well to the house, most window glas is broken, all locks are rusted, all of the faucets probably do not work, and much, much more…

Please pray for good weather, safety, energy and many opportunities to share the Gospel!

As with every day, we thank the Lord for His provision in ALL things…

Ps 23:1 “The Lord is my Shepherd (Jehova Raah’), I shall not want. (Jehova Jireh’)”

Urgent Prayer Request! 08/30/2013

Please pray for us and the Philippines!

The Metro Manila area suffered much devastation
due to heavy rainfall during the last few days.

Parts of San Juan City, just north of us, are under water!

Many lives are in danger!

We are OK…praise the LORD!

…thus far, the water is running off nicely here at the compound…

Update 05/08/2013

Dear friends and family!

Here is an update with thanksgivings and prayer requests.

[-] Our trip to Romblon Island:

We made it back to Manila, tired, but in good health and very joyful!
The Lord gave much opportunity to witness to folks while on the boat going to the island: Karen shared the Lord with Barbara Shepherd from Australia, who lives on Romblon.  Patrick spoke with a German couple and had a few hours of conversation about the Lord  with a gentleman from Germany named Volker (…we didn’t get much sleep, as you can imagine!).

We managed to visit with Barbara Shepherd and her husband Dennis a couple of times, while on the island, and they were of great help to us in giving us the lay of the island and with the search for rental apartments.

We had a wonderful time with Lani Mangaring and her kids, Mary Cris, Anthony and Tamara. (Lani is a widow whose husband passed away in 2008, she assisted Karen from 1990-1995).  Anthony graduated top of his class and was awarded 17 Gold medals!  Lani is a wonderful and godly friend and she took good care of us while on Romblon.  She also assisted us in searching for rental properties. She found 3 rentals for us,  whereby 2 of them fell through due to misc. reasons. (It seems rents can triple if you are a foreigner, so we are learning to have Lani help in the negotiations…).  We are still in contact with the owner of the 3rd rental property.  Incidentally, when we visited this place, a bunch of kids gathered all around on the front porch.  We could see right away many possibilities for a kids club there!!

We also met with Phyllis Rapha, a missionary with SIL (Summer Institute of Linguistics/ Wycliffe) from Singapore. She has been working on the island for a few years doing translation of the New Testament into the island dialect. She gave us many helpful tips in regards to the Gospel work and the people on Romblon. She told us also some exciting news about the New Testament in Romblomanon: it is almost done and in the final stages of publication! There are several groups that are using the new Romblomanon Gospel of Luke for Bible study, with very good results. There was even a baptism of several as a result of these studies.

We are excited to see what God will do!

[-] Baquio City:

we had a short, but wonderful time with Ken & Joyce Hardisty. The Sunday we where there was busy with visiting the “Baguio Gold” assembly for the Lord’s Supper & preaching, and then the “Navy Base” assembly for the Bible Hour and fellowship.

[-] Language Study:

Karen is now meeting weekly with her tutor. Patrick is studying with several Computer resources and books. We purchased the Romblomanon Dictionary, published by SIL/ Wycliffe. Patrick is also refreshing his German, especially in regards to the Holy Scriptures and the Gospel verses.

Thanksgiving to the Lord:

[-] for Karen’s speedy recovery from surgery

[-] that Aunt Rose Brooks is doing very well and is back in fellowship at San Juan Gospel Chapel

[-] that BSA (Bible School of the Air) has received some funds and was able to build the first floor of their new facility. We hope to use their Filipino ECS courses in the work on Romblon Island!

[-] for allowing us to enjoy the loving fellowship at San Juan Gospel Chapel

[-] for showing us the possibilities on Romblon Island in regards to the Gospel and some places we might live.

[-] for safety while traveling many miles last month.

[-] for Lani Mangaring and her family for taking care of us.

[-] for providing ALL of our needs! Yes, Praise the Lord!

Prayer Requests:

[-] for the Lord to show us the right rental property to live and exactly where we should minister. And if the 3rd rental property is the one, please Lord, guide us and give us wisdom in the negotiations. We are meeting with the owner this Friday here in Manila!

[-] for the Lord to provide a small motorbike for Lani, to save the cost of public transportation (which eats up all her profit). Because she is a widow, we are trying to encourage her in her baking business…she bakes and sells her goods to merchants in the town.

[-] smooth transition to the island, probably starting in November.

[-] concentration, energy and discipline for the language study.

[-] Philippine driver’s licenses for both of us.

[-] Patrick’s passport renewal, incl. no problems with the transfer of the Philippine visa.

We need your prayers!

Thanks for laboring with us in this regard!

We think of you often and miss you all!

Ps 34:8 & 9

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him.

O fear the LORD, all of you his saints: for there is no lack to them that fear him.

Update 02/28/2013

Here is a short update:

[-] Karen is doing well and is recovering nicely from her recent surgery.

  • She is still in pain often.
  • Please continue to pray for her.

[-] Language Study is still ongoing
, yes, slow, but steady.

  • We will be meeting with our tutor once a week very soon, Lord willing.
  • Please continue to pray.

[-] We are planning to travel to Romblon Island
on March 18th, Lord willing.

[-] BSA commenced construction
on their unfinished building. Praise the LORD!

  • Please remember that BSA (Bible School of the Air) is not funded by or affiliated with ECS Ministries or Emmaus Bible College. BSA serves the Philippines and some other Asian countries with quality Bible Correspondence Courses and grades over 2 million of those in a year.
  • Please continue to pray for this important ministry!

[-] Patrick enjoyed a week of Special Studies
at the Bible Camp in Malolos.

  • He “shadowed” Ken Hardisty, who was teaching the lessons. Ken taught on “Expository Teaching & Preaching” and it was very practical. The audience consisted of about 72 national full-time workers and some of them traveled as far as from Illoillo City and Cebu Island, which is about a 2-3 day travel. All enjoyed a wonderful fellowship after each session!
  • Please continue to pray for this important ministry!

We appreciate you laboring in prayer with us!

Thanks for partnering with us in our ministry!

We are humbled, and at the same time joyful, to experience God’s constant love and provision!

We miss you all!
