Update Dec. 5th, 2018

Wow!

Last Saturday we had another Bible Verse Club with many kids!

We added up all the verses that the kids learned, and the top girl memorized 86 verses this year!

The top boy memorized 77 verses!  Incredible!

Also, Patrick had 11 Emmaus courses to grade (see picture), and 10 more are on his desk!  Amazing!

Thank you Lord!

We decided to have another “Street Feeding” of the school kids that pass by our house everyday, and had many of them enjoy the hot and sweet “rice soup”!

We hope & pray that some of them might join our Bible Verse Club in the future…

Our building project is on hold for right now, as we trust the Lord to provide for the next phase (windows, plumbing, tile, etc..).

We are so thankful for all that the Lord is doing here, and commit all of it in to His hands!

Thanksgiving: our Visas have been submitted to the Immigration Office for renewal and we are awaiting approval in January 2019…

Please continue to pray for the following:

  • Bible Memory Club – one session to go before we break for the year…
  • Emmaus Courses – more interest with the adults & kids…
  • Ladies Bible Study canceled the last several time due to heavy rain..
  • The Bible Translator’s Assistant – good progress – pray for wisdom & stamina…
  • King Of Glory – still waiting on our “voice talent” (probably January 2019)…
  • Believer’s Bible Commentary – still going slow…
  • Approval of our Visa applications…
  • For kids & adults to receive the Lord Jesus as their Lord & Savior!

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Update Oct. 14, 2018

Dear Friends and Family!

We have been back from furlough for about 6 weeks now, and it got very busy, very fast…

The Bible Verse Club is growing, and with that the number of teens. We found a well made Gospel tract in Tagalog for the younger kids and will be ordering those shortly.  We will use those in future Gospel presentations.  Last Saturday we handed out around 10 Emmaus Correspondence courses to some of the older kids!  We praise the LORD for this and we are so thrilled!

The Ladie’s Bible Study has fluctuated in numbers since we’ve been back, and the Lord brought us 7 ladies this last Thursday…Praise Him!

Patrick’s programming for “The Bible Translator’s Assistant” application is going well and thus far has reached about 800 lines of code… Praise the LORD!

Our building project is also going well.  The workers just finished putting on the roof (nippa/ grass-like) and are  now building the exterior walls with hollow block.  The next steps include the windows, flooring & tile for the bathroom, electricity service line, inside electricity cabling & appliances, water, plumbing, sinks & drain…still a lot of work ahead of us…

Lastly, we are scheduled to travel to Manila on Oct. 26th. Karen will be leaving for a Women’s Retreat in Bohol on the 28th and be back Nov. 1 and Patrick will be meeting with Dr. Tod Allman from the TBTA software team. We also are in need of some replacement equipment, vehicle spare parts, and supplies…

Please continue to pray for the following:

⚑ Children’s Bible Verse Ministry – Gospel Tract & Emmaus Courses

⚑ Possible Teen Bible Study

⚑ The Bible Translator’s Assistant – LDV Analyzer – for wisdom & stamina

⚑ King Of Glory – waiting on our “voice talent” to become available

⚑ Believer’s Bible Commentary – still going slow…

⚑ Travel to Manila & Bohol Oct. 26th – safety & good weather

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Update March 5th

Dear praying Friends & Family,

We just came back from our “supply run” to Manila and we accomplished everything we set out to do: drivers licenses, annual report with the PH Immigration Office, dentist appointments, meetings in regard to the “Believers Bible Commentary” and “King of Glory” translations.

Coming back on the 10 hr boat , we were very tired, but so encouraged as 28 kids showed up for memory verse club. One girl had memorized 10 verses. As they say these verses, we ask them questions to see if they understand what they are memorizing. We are amazed as they answer correctly. Some of the women in the village say they are embarrassed as the kids can answer Bible questions better than they.

We are also encouraged as many women have more interest in coming to the ladies study. We also get many requests for Bibles. They can receive a free Bible when they complete “What the Bible Teaches”. Pray that many will desire this and tell their friends.

Another great encouragement is when young believers we have discipled, carry on the kids club and studies even when we are not here. This is a  good thing as we plan to take a short trip to the US and Canada for a couple months this Spring.  Please pray for that time that we might encourage the saints at home and to also be refreshed.

Please continue to pray for:

Short Prayer Request, Jan. 30th

Dear Friends & Family,

We have our boat tickets for Manila and are scheduled to leave on this Wednesday 9pm, and to stay for 16 days.

The purpose is to stock up on much needed supplies, to see the Dentist (Karen has a bad tooth…), to meet with Tod Allman (Bible Translation Software), to meet with the new Emmaus Philippines (formerly BSA) folks, to pick up our new 5 year drivers license, to find spare parts for our bike, and to see some friends…

Please pray for safety, health & strength.

Thanks for praying for us.

Encouraged! (Jan 24, 2018)

Dear Friends & Family,

As we stated in our update a few days ago, we have had to cancel a lot of times due to strong rain, wind and very “cold”temperatures (…”cold” for Filipino people…). We also didn’t want them to get sick…  So we wanted to start it up again this last Saturday, but both of our Filipino sisters who help us were sick and it was pouring rain…so we canceled.

Later that day, the sun peeked out and not long after that, we suddenly saw 20 kids trickling down our sidewalk!   Begging to say their verses!

That so thrilled our hearts!

What an encouragement!  Thank you LORD!

We were once again reminded:

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deut. 31:8

Update Jan 22, 2018

Dear friends & family,

The last few month have been quite a challenge for us.

One tropical storm after another, with sustained high winds, and almost daily torrential rain downfall, causing a bunch of landslides on our main road to town, but also long periods of power & internet outages. Our ladies Bible study did not meet for many weeks, due to weather, but also due to sickness (cold & flu). Same with the children’s work.

We had to go to the neighboring island to renew our car tags and that was very challenging as well. To do that, we had to drive on to a small roll-on-roll-off boat ferry. The dangerously high waves tossed the small vessel back and forth, for about 40min. We encountered many landslides as well on the way to main town Odiangan, but made it ok. We chose to stay a few days in a “motel” to wait for the sea to calm down and we made it back home safely.

We thank the LORD for keeping us save and sound thru all of it! Praise Him!

Please pray for the different efforts of our ministry to start back up soon!

In Him,

Patrick & Karen

Merry CHRISTmas 2017

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for laboring with us in prayer this last year!

We could not do the LORD’s work here without you!

Please continue to pray for the Philippine people, especially  as the 2 recent typhoons paused much devastation due to a lot of rain and landslides.  Our power and internet have been restored, but remain flaky…all roads are open since yesterday, praise the LORD!

We are having all of our friends over today to celebrate the birth of our LORD Jesus…

Merry CHRISTmas,

and

a Happy New Year!

Short Update Sept. 31st

Dear Friends and Family!

The LORD indeed answers prayers!

We will be attending my sister Ann’s memorial in Kansas City after all!  Thank you LORD!  Tomorrow we will be at the annual Missionary Retreat in Rizal, Laguna, and then fly out next Monday to Kansas City.

Please continue to pray for safety…

Our friend Lani Mangaring will be “house sitting” for us and will also lead the women’s Bible study group in our absence.  Please pray for her and her family!

Thanks for praying with us and for us!

Update Sept. 8th

Dear Friends & Family!

The LORD allowed us to have another good trip to Manila! We are so thankful, LORD!

We had a meeting with Dr. Tod Allman from “The Bible Translators Assistant, Inc.” software group, which is specialized in “computational linguistic” software.  This group has been developing this software over the past 20 years and it seems promising to our translation of the Believer’s Bible Commentary.  We are praying how to be involved with this group, as Patrick has the skills & knowledge of programming.  The goal of this software is to make the translation of the Bible possible (or even just easier!) into any language!

Also, we were approved as representatives of BSA/ and ECS (correspondence courses!) in our area, and are now able to grade and print certificates here in our own local office! Thank you LORD!

We had another great turnout with our bi-monthly Children’s Bible Memory Club, and we average 25 kids!  They are like “sponges” for the Word, and we had a little girl say 8 verses in a row, how wonderful!  Please pray that God’s Word will fall on “solid” ground with all!

There is very good news in regards to the translation efforts for WMD Bible commentary: our “Chief-in-Editor” received permission from his company to work from home, and  he
is now freed up to continue the final editing of the Gospel of John!  Praise the LORD!  We continue to pray hard for the LORD to bring us some more godly Filipinos to help with this project…

The translation of the KING OF GLORY movie narration is going well and we are almost ready for final proof reading.  We are still looking for a “studio” to record the audio…

On a sad note: Patrick’s sister Ann went to be with the LORD and the memorial service is scheduled for October 12th in Kansas City.  It seems that we will not be able to attend.  Please pray for the family…

Please continue to pray for the following:

Ladies Bible Study

Bi-Monthly Children’s Bible Memory Club

Translation of Bill MacDonald’s Believers Bible Commentary in to Filipino

Our involvement with the TBTA software group
