Prayer Request 2014-07-16

Dear Friends and Family!

We are very excited that Edna, one of the ladies in our Bible study group, completed “What the Bible Teaches” on her own, and passed the test with 90 out of 100!

She received a certificate from BSA (Bible School of the Air Correspondence Curriculum), see picture below…

Please pray for her, as she continues the study the Bible with us!

Also, a category 3 Typhoon is going to pass us to north, today, and we already are having strong winds and a lot of rain…

Please pray for us and the Philippines!

In Him,

Update 2014/06/05

Dear friends and family,

it has been grueling hot the last 6 weeks, and the daily power
outages (some 16 hours or more) did not help.

You know that it is hot, when your national neighbors complain
to you about it…

We finally decided to purchase a generator and it really makes
a difference, especially with the power outages at night!

Please continue to pray for Karen’s Bible study, today, with
Edna, Edith and Elsa.

Also, please pray for Winnie (and her husband Jun), as she
asked to have a Bible study with us.

We praise the Lord daily for His goodness towards us! Thank
you for your love and prayers!

In HIM,

Patrick & Karen

Update 2014/04/25

Dear Friends and Family!

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Of all things, we had a brownout (no power!) when we arrived in town to setup the
sound equipment!

We had to to wait until 4:30pm to start the sound check and it took us until 6pm
to get it done…the outreach suppose to start at 7pm…

I had to go back to our house to change cloth and pick up Karen and we barely made it back in time…

Many people were praying and indeed, the concert started on time without any glitches!

The Gospel was preached and tracts were handed out!

Praise the Lord!

We made it home by midnight, only to find our house dark, with no power.
This power outage lasted for 12 hours and we did not get much sleep that night,
due to the heat, …but we praised the Lord for keeping the power on during the outreach…

Again, thanks for laboring with us in prayer!

does not have life…”

2014-03-05 Update, Thanksgiving, Prayer Requests

Dear Friends and Family!

As reported previously, we finally made it to the island, praise the Lord!

We are still unpacking boxes from the move, but are settling in nicely…

It seems everything we do takes 5 times longer than we are used to,
due to transportation, lack of parts on the island, weather, etc…

The good news is that each person we meet in the process is one more
person we build relationship with to share the gospel with, either at that
time or in the future… so its all good!

As to the repairs on the house, we are having the windows put in today for the
main bedroom and might continue next week with the 6 windows downstairs in
the kitchen and living room.

We are so thankful to the Lord for our friends, Lani Mangaring, and Jeffrey,
a young Christian man, who come almost daily to help us. We are so blessed!

We also thankful to the Lord, that we were able to break bread in our home every
Sunday thus far. The Mangaring family and sometimes Jeffrey would attend…
Patrick is teaching on the New Testament principles of gathering, using
Bill MacDonald’s Books “Christ Loved the Church”, always including the Gospel
message…we are so blessed!

Lani, her kids, and Jeffrey are wanting to help with the children’s ministry, and we
already had our first meeting to brainstorm ideas. What a joy! Please pray!

There also have been some challenges since we moved here:

– the well pump, which belongs to our neighbor, broke and it took about a week to
get it repaired! Thank the Lord that we had enough water left in the tank!

– the main sewer line clogged and it took us a couple of days to get it repaired…

– we lost power for almost 2 day due to vandalism to the electric meter, which is
located on a pole at the street. It rained, the meter got wet and blew up!
Thank the Lord that nothing caught on fire (meter,, cables and conduit were replaced,
because they were burned and charred!).

– there have been many flat tires…

Prayer request:

– for future children’s ministry, including a “feeding” program

– for future Bible studies with Winnie and Jun Dalida, Arnold and Ling-Ling,
Jun Hilario (barangay kapitan, village official), and the Managaring family

– for Lola (grandmother) Edith’s roof of house, which is still damaged

– Auntie Edna and Elsa (landlord’s aunts) for salvation

– for God’s provision in all things

– for God’s protection

– for good testimony with the people

– safe water for washing, cooking and drinking

– for the vandalism to stop

– for the well pump to last

We miss you all very much!

With much love,

In HIM,

Patrick & Karen Carder

Prayer Request 2013-12-14

Dear Friends,

as we continue to pack up our household, we pray daily that the Lord will
give us strength and also that He will provide everything needed for the move.

Lord willing, we will be loading the first truck on Jan 4th, which is also
the day for Karen & I to drive to Batangas port (4h south of us) and board the
RORO (roll-on-roll-off) ferry to Romblon.

Please pray:
———————————————————————————
– that the truck indeed will come on Jan 4th

– that the weather is good for driving and sailing

– that everything and everyone will arrive unharmed

– for the Lord’s provision in all things

We miss you all !

With much love,

in Him.

Update 2013-11-26

Hi All!

We made it back to Manila…after a grueling 15h boat ride with a rough sea…

We are trying to get organized with our move to Romblon…please pray!

Update 2013-11-16

We had quite the scare when Typhoon Yolanda went right over us,  here on Romblon Island, Visayas, last Saturday. We had 30 feet waves from the storm surge  in front of our house, but they stayed 300feet away, praise the Lord! Many houses here in our village were damaged and everybody is helping out their neighbors. No lives were lost here on Romblon.

This Typhoon was labeled a category 5 Super Typhoon with 3.5 more power than Hurricane Katrina. The island of Leyte, and especially the city of Tacloban, had the most devastation and the death toll so far is around 10,000…

Thanks for all your prayers, it made all the difference!

We are still ok, after Typhoon Yolanda came thru, just battling usual things following a storm with 190mls/h wind. Cell phone- & internet services are still in-and-out, so is the electricity. A huge tree near our water well came down on top of our waterline, so we had to remove it…and the line was still ok, praise the Lord! Also, some windows cracked, but other than that all is well. There is some damage to a few houses in the village and everybody is helping out. We will try to catch the next boat out this coming Tuesday…please pray!

Ex23:20 “Behold, I send an Angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared…”

Update 2013-10-15

Hi all!

We just came back from the annual CMPI (Christian Missions in the Philippines Islands) missionary retreat in Rizal Laguna, which is about 2-3h south of us.

Many of the PH missionaries attended this 3 day event and we had a good time of fellowship, singing, prayer and fun. Phil Barnes of MSC was the speaker.

It was great to get to know our fellow co-workers a little better…

Also, many of the folks are sick with fevers, so please pray for the Lord to keep everyone healthy…

– Aunt Rose Brooks had a follow up with the doctors and she is doing well!

Please continue to pray for her strength to increase…

– The New Zealand team of 16 has left. They distributed over 80,000 Gospel tracts in about 10 days and over 100 people already contacted BSA and asked for ECS courses! Praise the LORD!

Please pray that many will “Call upon the LORD” and be saved!

– We (the Carders) are planning to go to Romblon Island next week, Oct 22nd, to get started with the repairs on the rental house there. The amount of work that needs to be done before December 27th (which is our move date…) is overwhelming.

Please pray for safety while traveling, for the Lord’s provision, and that the Lord will “direct our steps” (Prov 16:9)

We miss you all!

With much love,

in Him,

Patrick & Karen

Prayer Request 2013-09-11

Hi Friends & Family!

Just a short update and prayer request from the Carders:

– Rose Brooks is still in the hospital, due to a bleeding ulcer.
She is doing much better, but something is still causing blood loss, so
she is scheduled for another Endoscopy today to find out what else might
be wrong.    PLEASE PRAY !

– As previous mentioned, we are planning to go to Romblon Island, to
try to get things repaired on the rental house (electricity, water, etc.).
However, we decided to stay here (Manila) while Aunt Rose is in the hospital.
Karen is one of the care takers at the hospital and rotates with other folks
to be there with Aunt Rose.  It’s such a privilege and blessing to be there for her!

In this, we are reminded of  Proverbs 16:9, which says:
” A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.”
and Psalm 27:14 ” Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD! ”

…so…we will wait until the Lords makes way for us to go to Romblon…

PLEASE KEEP US IN YOUR PRAYERS!
